Departmental  Information

The Creative Arts department provides pupils with the opportunity to take an active part in the creation and re-creation of  music, the development of skills in both art and design, to take an active part in drama performance work and to observe, reflect and comment on their own work and the work of others.

In Music pupils develop their performance skills by selecting two instruments to study in S2, and beyond - should they opt for Music in S3. Pupils are also involved in Composing their  own music and Listening and analysing music – both their own performance and the work of others. Through music activities, pupils learn to work individually, in small groups and as a class group.

In Art & Design, the pupils are involved in many activities which include: observing the world around us and recreating their own interpretation using pencil, pen, ink, paint, oil pastel, chalk or charcoal, creating a 3-D object in clay as well as observing and reflecting on the work of great artists / designers both Scottish and further afield. Through Art & Design, pupils learn to work individually on a particular task and to reflect / comment both on their work and the work of  others.

In Drama, pupils are involved in the development of drama skills: creating, refining and developing ideas,  presenting ideas to an audience through use of scripts, mime or improvisation and developing ‘Theatre Arts’ skills – make-up, making props, lighting, scenery or sound.  Through all of this, pupils learn to work with others, either in pairs or small groups, and to appreciate the views of others.
